Felt like the worst captain on the planet: David Miller
"I didn't know what to do, to be honest."
Prior to South Africa’s second T20I against Pakistan at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, Faf du Plessis was rested and David Miller was named as the stand-in captain for the last two encounters. He didn’t disappoint and guided his team to a seven-wicket victory and helped his team take an unassailable 2-10 lead in the three-match series with one match remaining at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
He scored a breezy 65 from 29 deliveries with four boundaries and five hits into the stands. Quite deservingly, Miller was adjudged as the Player of the Match. After the encounter, David was delighted and sarcastically said he felt like the worst skipper in the world when the visitors came out all guns blazing.
“I thought I was the worst captain on the planet. I didn’t know what to do, to be honest. They were always going to come hard and try to get as many runs in the powerplay. We didn’t start too well with the ball, we were a bit wide and short,” the 29-year-old Miller was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation ceremony.
In the first match at the Newlands in Cape Town, Miller got the Player of the Match award for his superlative display of fielding. That day, he took four catches and inflicted a couple of run-outs that took the match away from Shoaib Malik and Co.
It got quite tight and stressful at the back end
Miller also lauded the bowlers for keeping their cool when the match was going down to the wire. He praised Lutho Sipamla and chinaman bowler Tabraiz Shamsi, both of whom didn’t give much for the batsmen to work with. Subsequently, they turned out to be the most economical amongst the bowlers.
“It got quite tight and stressful at the back end but the guys pulled through and did incredibly well. Shamsi came in and bowled incredibly well, brought the run-rate down, and Sipamla was absolutely incredible on his first game. As a captain I was really pleased with the two of them and then to top it off with the guys at the back end was really sweet,” he added.
