Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers are considered to be the legends of the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise. They have provided fans with innumerable moments both on and off the field. They share a brotherly bond between them and it is often said that they consider each other as a part of their families. It all started when RCB purchased AB de Villiers in 2011. In the past, they both have never hidden their admiration and respect towards each other. They have always considered the other person to be the “best batter in the world”. Such is their friendship that when ABD retired from all forms of cricket, Virat sent a heartfelt note to him saying “I love you”. They both scored centuries and it was the first instance of two centuries being scored in an innings for the first time in the IPL. When Virat and AB bat together, it often is a symphony. AB was on song from the ball one and Virat joined the party. Both hit all the Gujarat bowlers all around the park creating a historical partnership of 229 runs between them. RCB scored 248/3 and the Virat-AB partnership contributed 229 off 16 overs between them. AB and Virat’s 229 run partnership is the highest ever in IPL history for any wicket. They thrashed 20 fours and 15 sixes between them. AB was unbeaten on 129* while Virat contributed 109 and it led them to a 144 run victory against Gujarat Lions which was one of the victories by a huge margin. 2. In an episode of Breakfast with Champions, AB heaped praises on Virat and he said that he always felt like a member of his family during his stint at Royal Challengers Bangalore. AB said, “We are neighbours here, if it wasn’t for the mosquitoes here, we would have left our doors open and probably would have shared a big room. Anushka’s here all the time, my family is there, the kids are running around. We would have coffee together early morning. We spend hours in the pool together, everyone just jumping and diving, and they are so chilled”. He also revealed how caring is Kohli which has made him scared of telling anything to him. “I am scared of saying anything to him now because if I say I like his shoes, the next minute he organizes me those shoes. I told him I like coffee another day, now he’s bought me an espresso machine”, revealed AB de Villiers while featuring in an episode of Breakfast with Champions. 3. RCB was in trouble with Gayle departing early, but then came a storm that blew apart the ever-strong Mumbai Indians and their bowling. The duo put on an unbeaten stand of 215 runs and helped RCB set a target of 236 runs. Here, AB started rather calmly, completing his fifty off 29 deliveries. But then he went into beast mode and completed his century in just 47 deliveries. He was thrashing the Mumbai bowlers all round the park. The innings stunned Mumbai Indians supporters as AB went on to reach his second century and his highest in IPL, i.e., 133 runs. Virat played an able supporting role and smashed an unbeaten 82 runs. This was one of the best partnerships in the history of IPL and it was more significant because it came against a champion Mumbai Indians side. 4. While ABD retired from all forms of cricket, Virat posted a heartfelt note saying it hurts him a lot that he is leaving RCB and he loves him with a heartbroken emoji. Back in 2020, Virat also posted a photo of him and AB on Twitter earlier saying, “The most special thing about sport is the friendship and mutual respect you share with your teammates along your journey. Sport is beautiful”. This tweet just indicates the kind of affection and respect they have between them. When Kohli’s decision to omit Ravi Ashwin in the fourth test against England was widely criticized. AB quickly came to the skipper’s defense. AB tweeted, “ As spectators of Test Cricket, just stop worrying about team selection and other nonsense and start appreciating the competition, passion, skill, and patriotism unfolding in front of your eyes. You are missing a good game!”. Recently, AB de Villiers imitated Virat Kohli’s style of celebration in a cheeky way after a match in IPL which led to a burst of laughter in the dressing room. He was finding it difficult to connect the ball during the T20I series against England, early this year. Virat made a comeback in the second T20 international and made an unbeaten 73 off 49 balls to power India to an emphatic seven-wicket win. When he was asked about the change in approach which led to his success in the game, he gave massive credit to AB de Villiers. He said, “I had to shift the focus back to the basics. And I had a special chat with AB de Villiers before this game and he told me to just watch the ball.
