James Anderson’s calf injury in the first Test of the Ashes 2019 paved the way for Jofra Archer’s inclusion in the second Test. The Barbados born speedster made a glaring impact straight away. His menacing pace combined with well-directed bouncers unsettled most of the Australian batsmen.

Archer finished the Ashes series amongst the highest wicket-takers with 22 wickets in four Tests. Jofra Archer has indeed injected an extra layer of strength in England’s pace bowling department. However, he has proved to be ineffectual in tracks which are comparatively unfavourable to fast bowling.

Although still new to Tests, the 24-year old needs time to mature as a fast bowler in red-ball cricket. The Englishmen tour India in January 2021 as part of the Test Championship, where they are scheduled to play five Test matches. By that time, the speedster would likely evolve to discover accuracy and resolve along with speed to put Virat Kohli’s men in a spot of bother.
