Five Indian records in IPL
A lot of records belonged to the overseas players after the first couple of seasons.
Balachandra Akhil has the best strike-rate by an Indian in an innings
There may not be a lot of people who remember or know Balachandra Akhil. He was an all-rounder from Karnataka who was around in domestic cricket for about 12-13 years. He was constantly in and out of the Karnataka side as well but managed to play 51 first-class games, 69 List ‘A’ games and 35 T20s.
In the IPL, he was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side for the first three years before he moved to Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK) in 2011. Akhil holds a record no one would expect him to. The Bangalore-born all-rounder struck a seven-ball 27 against Deccan Chargers in 2008 to lead RCB to a win while they were chasing 166.
That 27 not out off just seven balls has gone on to become the fourth-best in terms strike-rate in an innings. Chris Morris, Albie Morkel and AB de Villiers are the only ones above him when you consider innings of more than 25 runs. Thus, Akhil’s strike-rate of 385.71 is the best by an Indian in a single IPL innings.
