Five Indian records in IPL
A lot of records belonged to the overseas players after the first couple of seasons.
When the Indian Premier League (IPL) first started, it was a step into the unknown. Nobody quite knew what it would turn out to be. It came on the back of India’s success in the 2007 World T20. However, in the first couple of years, it was mainly the overseas stars dominating the tournament.
A lot of records belonged to the overseas players after the first couple of seasons. But the Indians slowly started to catch up and have broken quite a few of them as well. There are certain records that the Indian players have broken and some of them are all-time ones as well.
Here we look at five Indian records in the history of the IPL:
Yusuf Pathan holds the record for the fastest IPL ton by an Indian
Yusuf Pathan was one of the stars for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their title-winning run in 2008. But he went through a slump in 2009 before storming his way back into reckoning in 2010. In the second match of the third edition of the IPL, Pathan almost pulled off a miraculous win for RR.
Thanks to fifties from Ambati Rayudu and Saurabh Tiwary, MI reached 212 in their 20 overs. In reply, RR were reduced to 66/4 in the 10th over and Pathan was already at the crease. He was batting on 14 off 11 balls and then that fall of the fourth wicket triggered and the Baroda all-rounder simply went berserk.
He got to his half-century in 21 balls as he belted the bowlers around. In no time, the hundred was up and it just took 16 deliveries for Pathan to move from 50 to 100. Thus, it became the fastest IPL ton scored by an Indian (37 balls). Almost a decade has passed and the record is still intact.
