In cricket, it is important to guide a number of players and that’s where a leader fills in the void. In order to bring glory to the nation, these players need to work like a well-oiled machine and their engine has to be their leader. Since its inception, the gentleman’s game has seen some of the best cricketing stars leading their troupe.

Captaincy is a cumbersome task as the skipper has to keep all the individuals in the same loop. Indian cricket has seen some of the iconic cricketers leading their team. In this cricket frantic nation, many players have assumed the leadership role at different stages of their career whether it is for a country or a club. Particularly in India, there is a myth of assigning the captaincy role to the best player of the side.

Virat Kohli is the current skipper of Men in Blue and has already brought many laurels to the nation but there are some chinks in his armour, and it is visible during his stint as RCB skipper. Recently Bangalore’s failure to reach playoffs in the 12th edition of IPL has sparked a new debate of Rohit Sharma being a better skipper than Virat Kohli and there is some logic behind it.

Here we bring you five reasons why Rohit Sharma is a better skipper than Virat Kohli:

1) Balanced emotional quotient

It is a no brainer that Virat Kohli is a cricketer who wears his heart on his sleeve, and it really encourages other players to follow him. He always fist pumps when he gets an important boundary in a tight run-chase or a wicket falls at a crucial juncture of the game. Aggression is a good emotion when shown in a correct measure but sometimes Kohli shows more of it which can be harmful to the team.

During the tie against KKR when Tim Southee was being belted by Andre Russell in the 19th over of the innings, Virat was quite angry and making gestures which can demoralize a bowler. Unlike Rohit, Kohli always shows his frustration on the bowlers when they bowl a poor over which can hamper their entire spell.

His emotions on the field show his passion for the game, but being the captain of the side he should balance it which will really help his teammates. Sometimes putting a hand on someone’s shoulder who is under pressure can work wonders which Rohit does all the time.
