5 former cricketers who questioned Virat Kohli's place in Indian team during his lean patch
While Kohli has roared back to form in T20Is and ODIs in the last few months, there were plenty of cricketers who questioned his place in the team during his lean patch.
2. Ajay Jadeja
Another former Indian cricketer, Ajay Jadeja criticised Kohli for his performance on the England tour. The star batter replaced the in-form Deepak Hooda in the second T20I match and that triggered Jadeja, who stated that if he wasn’t Virat, then he wouldn’t have played any cricket.
“Virat Kohli is a special player. If it wasn’t Virat Kohli, he wouldn’t have probably played Test cricket as well. It depends on who you want to play with. I feel you have a choice, it’s a tough one to make. If I had to pick a T20 side, Virat probably wouldn’t be there,” Ajay Jadeja said after India’s T20I series against England in July 2022.
Jadeja had also asked the management to take a tough call on Virat’s selection in the T20 World Cup. He said that current skipper Rohit Sharma needs to decide on a strategy for the upcoming mega tournament and suggested that he can leave out Kohli if he doesn’t find a place for him as per the team’s approach.
