5 former cricketers who questioned Virat Kohli's place in Indian team during his lean patch
While Kohli has roared back to form in T20Is and ODIs in the last few months, there were plenty of cricketers who questioned his place in the team during his lean patch.

The 1983-World Cup winner Syed Kirmani had also shared his thoughts on Virat Kohli’s tough lean patch. The former Indian skipper scored just 11 and 20 runs in the Edgbaston Test and 1 and 11 in the two T20I matches against England.
Kirmani had urged the Indian cricket selection committee to ask Kohli to play and perform in domestic cricket first. Incidentally, the Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara had made his return to the Indian Test team after impressive performances in the Ranji Trophy 2022 and the County Championship. Kirmani asked why that can’t be applied to Kohli.
“Obviously, there is so much competition in this current era. If you are not performing in a few innings, irrespective of however experienced you might be, the selection committee takes a call and says, ‘That’s it. Go back to domestic cricket, come back to form, and then we will see if we can fit you back into the Indian team’. Don’t see why that can’t apply to Virat Kohli,” Syed Kirmani had said.
