Football-style mid-season transfers set to light up IPL 2018

The IPL 2018 auctions are done and dusted. The auctions attracted a lot of eyeballs and it certainly lived up to all the hype built around it. All the franchises look sorted at the moment with the permutations they have on the paper after the auctions. However, the interest revolving around the tournament and the player auctions does not end just here.

As per the recent reports, the IPL 2018 is set to have mid-season transfers. When this happens, it will be done for the first time in the history of the T20 leagues. However, the concept of mid-season transfer is not a new one. The sport of football has had such transfers for a very long time now. As per this norm, the teams can have their players swapped and transferred midway through the season.

The head of the IPL Governing Council, Rajeev Shukla, confirmed the news about the same. “Yes, this time the IPL will see mid-season transfers,” IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla told mid-day recently in an interaction.

An official further explained that there will be a five day window when the franchises will get this opportunity have the mid-season transfers. Also, it is worth noting that the transfers will happen if there is a demand for a particular player at that point of time.

“The transfer will take place in between Match No. 28 to 42 and the transfer window will be open for roughly five days. The transfer will take place only if there is a demand for that particular player from another franchisee,” the official explained.

Officials back the move

The Delhi Daredevils Assistant Coach, Pravin Amre, has backed the move. He noted that it is better to transfer a player to other team that wants his services instead of keeping him in the side and benching him in the tournament.

“Every youngster who comes into the IPL aims to play at some point. The transfer window is a great initiative by the IPL. Sometimes, players are bought in the auction, but don’t fit into combinations. As a result, he has to be on the bench. In such a scenario, it makes sense to trade the player if he is not going to play in the tournament,” Pravin Amre quoted.
