Former AP cricketer Budamuru Nagaraju jailed for impersonating MSK Prasad

Nagaraju got accustomed to a luxurious lifestyle and thus took this drastic step.

Former AP Ranji cricketer, Budamuru Nagaraju, was jailed on Friday for his involvement in a fraud case. In a bizarre incident, he tried impersonating Chairman of selectors of the Indian national cricket team, MSK Prasad. Vijayawada City Police arrested the acclaimed domestic cricketer for hoaxing two youngsters.

Nagaraju, who is still in his mid-twenties, is reported to have extorted money. An MBA graduate, Nagaraju hails from Srikakulam’s Yavvaripeta of Polaki mandal and currently a resident of Madhurawada in Visakhapatnam. He played for South Zone in 2011 and for Central Zone in 2013. At one point in time, he also aspired of becoming a professional cricketer.

Represented the Andhra Ranji team in 2014

ACP Central Y Ankineedu Prasad informed that Budamuru Nagaraju played for the Andhra Ranji team in 2014. Moreover, according to the police, he also has a Guinness Record for the ‘Longest individual cricket net session (male)’. Budamuru Nagaraju batted in the nets for an unbelievable 82 hours. Apparently, Nagaraju got habituated to luxurious life which has resulted in him taking such a drastic step.

“Following the successes in his career, Nagaraju started getting sponsorships from different firms and got habituated to a luxurious lifestyle. In 2018 with a motive to earn easy money, he duped a person called N Gopal claiming that he would establish a Dhoni Cricket Academy in Visakhapatnam. Gopal filed a complaint and a case was registered at that time in Visakhapatnam,” the police officer informed as quoted by The News Minute.

Budamuru Nagaraju also impersonated MSK Prasad over a phone call and extorted Rs 3.88 lakh from Ramakrishna Housing Private Limited. Furthermore, the police seized Rs 1,80,500 in cash along with a Pulsar bike after his arrest. Nagaraju was also involved in a few other fraud cases earlier as well.

“He closely observed MSK Prasad in a few prize distribution sessions and noted how he speaks. Then he changed his profile name to MSK Prasad on the Truecaller app, after which he impersonated the former cricketer and collected Rs 2.88 lakh claiming that he represented Kolkata Knight Riders.”
