Former Australian spinner calls selectors 'idiots'
Shaun Marsh has been called for the eighth time since making his debut in 2011.
The Australian Ashes squad has been the talking point among cricket followers. Some of the fans were in for a rude shock while many welcomed the changes with open arms. Many of the former cricketers and experts of the game were not convinced with the selectors’ pick and were visibly unhappy with the man in charge Steve Smith. Wicketkeeper Tim Paine was named in the Test squad after a gap of seven years.
On the other hand, Shaun Marsh made his eighth return to the team since making his debut in the year 2011. Marsh, who has mostly faced the new ball in domestic cricket, has been picked to counter the second new ball at the no.6 position. Pacer Chadd Sayers also found his name in the 13-man squad to take on Joe Root’s England.
Former Australian spinner Stuart MacGill was upset as Peter Nevill wasn’t picked as the wicketkeeper for the Test matches. He took a few shots at the selectors for opting for 32-year-old Tim Paine ahead of Nevill. Many of the former greats- Steve Waugh, Adam Gilchrist and Ian Healy backed Nevill to feature in the squad.
Spinner tweets in anger
MacGill expressed his views in multiple tweets “How about we pick a player who can do the job he’s selected for. Forget Ferry McFerryface, let’s vote on the idiots that pick the Australian cricket team. If Nevill isn’t being selected because he doesn’t score enough runs then perhaps the Australian captain should remember the day he was first selected for an Ashes series.”
Gilchrist showed is support and said that he is comfortable with the squad while explosive batter Chris Lynn too urged everyone to support the team for the important series. Tom Moody said “I understand selection can be challenging but for some reason we seem to over complicate it when the summer comes around”
