Former BCCI treasurer slams the BCCI for tarnishing the game
N Srinivasan has found himself tangled in controversies on many occasions.
N Srinivasan, the former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), has found himself in the centre of controversy on many occasions. The Managing Director of Indian Cements Limited had been involved in some ugly altercation with the BCCI and his son Ashwin as well.
Moreover, he has his fair share of ugly incidents in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In 2013, Gurunath Meiyappan, the son-in-law of Srinivasan and the team principal of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), was arrested by the Mumbai Police owing to involvement in betting and sharing inside team information with the bookmakers.
The blame for Srinivasan
Recently, Kishore Rungta, the former treasurer of the BCCI, has slammed N Srinivasan for not taking any action against his son following the shameful occurring, the case, eventually, being dragged to the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, he also reminisced the tussle between IS Bindra and Jagmohan Dalmiya when the former accused Dalmiya of evicting Sourav Ganguly from the team due to political purposes.
“Srinivasan is the one who, in my opinion, completely destroyed the game. If he had stepped down at the right time and had not done that wishy-washy by forming a two-member committee to probe his son-in-law (Gurunath Meiyappan) over Indian Premier League spot-fixing, the matter would have not gone to the Supreme Court. So, I blame Srinivasan for all that has happened,” he told Sportstar.
“The image of the BCCI was tarnished the first time with the fight between Bindra and Dalmiya. They were stalwarts and charges were levelled against one another. The first time, we went public with allegations against each other. Although white paper was brought out, we had good people, and it was run harmoniously. It started getting tarnished thereafter,” he added.
