The former England cricketer Shaun Udal is going through the worst phase of his life at the moment. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in January this year is a condition in which the parts of the human’s brain get progressively damaged over the years. Its three main symptoms are involuntary shaking, slow movement and stiff and inflexible muscles.

Shaun confirmed the disease on his social media account recently and is overwhelmed with the support he has been getting from everyone. He is also ready to go through the sternest test of his life and is looking at it in a positive way. Udal, who played four Tests and 11 ODIs for England, admitted to being shocked after knowing about the disease but feels that he has cope with it now and move on.

“I found out six weeks ago, it’s a bit of a shock but there’s always someone else worse off and you have to cope with it and move on. I’ve just got to get on with it. I can’t think negatively and get downbeat because it’s going to affect my chances of recovery and progress. It’s the toughest test, but I’ll face it head on, tackle it and with the support of friends and family we’ll keep it under control,” Shaun said while speaking to BBC Radio Solent.

Clarke and KP got in touch with Shaun

Ever since Shaun Udal has made the public aware of being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, he has been receiving a lot of support on social media. Though a few of them have questioned this approach, the 50-year-old feels it might help people with awareness and there was nothing to hide.

Moreover, his former team-mates have called Shaun up which include the likes of Michael Clarke, Kevin Pietersen, Darren Gough and Liam Dawson. “It’s been great. Some people said ‘why put it on Twitter?’ But I was getting lots of calls and questions asking if it’s true and I thought ‘I’ve got nothing to hide’ and it might help with the awareness.

“Michael Clarke has been in touch from Australia, people from South Africa, Kevin Pietersen, Darren Gough, some of the Hampshire boys like [Liam] Dawson. It’s nice to get a reaction you’d hope you get but there are also some alternative people from the medicine world that have been in touch, if I need help, second opinion, drugs and stuff to make contact,” Shaun further added.
