Former Proteas cricketer lashes out at ICC for suspending Kagiso Rabada
Rabada is set to miss the remainder of the series against Australia.
South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been suspended for two Test matches after he was charged over his on-field behaviour during the second Test match against Australia in Port Elizabeth. He was charged with level 2 offence according to ICC Code of Conduct for physical contact with the opposition player. He had brushed the shoulder of the Australian captain Steve Smith after picking his wicket in the first innings. However, former South Africa player Paul Harris has burst out at the ICC for suspending Rabada.
The world cricketing body has become very strict recently regarding the players’ actions on the field. The 22-year-old was charged with the level 1 offence for his on the face aggressive celebrations after scalping David Warner in the second innings on the third day of the Test match. Even Mitchell Marsh was caught using cuss words for Rabada after being dismissed on the fourth day of the game.
Why not Kohli?
The ongoing home summer has been one of the toughest for Proteas with two of the best sides in the world visiting the country. While it was India first who gave them a hiding in the limited overs format after losing the Test series, Australia have been always enjoying playing in the country as they haven’t lost a Test series in the rainbow nation. The Test series between India and South Africa was also a closely fought contest where tempers flared at times and a lot of things were said indirectly to each other by the players.
Paul Harris believes that the Indian captain Virat Kohli behaved like a clown during the Test series and he was charged with nothing by ICC. He also claimed that ICC has a problem with Kagiso Rabada or Proteas side itself given they are always charged according to him. “If he has to then everyone does. I watched Kohli behave like a clown for three tests here in SA and nothing. Seems to me that ICC either have an issue with Rabada or with the Proteas in general,” he wrote on Twitter after Rabada was charged.
The third Test match between South Africa and Australia will commence on March 22 in Cape Town.
