Former Saurashtra cricketer Hitesh Goswami elected as the head coach of India U16 camp

The India Under-16 team camp has been gifted with a new head coach in the name of former Saurashtra cricketer Hitesh Goswami. The camp is scheduled to be held from August 21 in Bengaluru. The Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) said that the former cricketer has passed BCCI’s Level ‘C’ exam for coaches.

The SCA further stated that Goswami, who has been a first-class cricketer for Saurashtra, is an experienced customer with the maturity of coaching the Saurashtra Under-23 team and has been appointed by the National Cricket Academy for the Under-16 camp.

What the SCA had to say:

“Goswami, who represented Saurashtra in first class level as an all-rounder, has cleared BCCI’s level ‘C’ exam for the coaches,” the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) said in a release.

“Goswami has experience of coaching Saurashtra U-23 team. He has been appointed as coach by National Cricket Academy for India U-16 camp 2017,” it said.

The release also stated that the 44-year-old has also been the coach of Middlesex for a span of 5 years. “He has also worked as a coach for Middlesex for five years,” added the release.

Speaking about the same Goswami said “I am glad to have the opportunity of being named Coach of India Under -16 Team. This I believe is the reward for my consistent work as a Coach for Saurashtra Cricket Association. I am really thankful to Saurashtra Cricket Association.”

Hitesh Goswami’s career as a cricketer consists of only 4 First Class matches. As far as his batting is concerned he has played 6 innings scoring  67 runs. He has the highest score of 26 from those four matches. However, his bowling performance has not been very good either with just six wickets from 4 matches. His economy rate stands at 3.01 while his best bowling figures are 3/48.

Goswami got his first First Class opportunity in the 1998-99 season. He then found himself out of contention and made a comeback in the 2002-03 season.
