Gaddafi Stadium being renovated for World XI series
Pakistan will host World XI for a 3-match T20I series in Lahore.
Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore is being renovated for the upcoming Independence Cup which will be played from September 12 to 15. Pakistan is scheduled to play three T20 Internationals against the visiting World XI side in the series. International cricket at this stage is set to return to the country for the first time since 2009.
The World XI team consists of notable big names with South African skipper Faf du Plessis leading the side. The team also has players like Hashim Amla, Tamim Iqbal, Morne Morkel, Samuel Badree, Imran Tahir among others. The security for this series is promised to be top notch as ICC has given an approval for the matches and awarded International status as well.
Stadium will be decorated before the series
Currently, it is the festival time for Pakistan and cricket fans as International players will travel for the series to the country. The fans have been deprived of cricket for such a long time and they deserve a smooth series now. The stadium in Lahore will be decorated ahead of the opening match of the series.
“The arena will be tastefully decorated before the launch of the series as we still have a few days left to give the stadium a new look,” a Pakistan Cricket Board official, who is supervising the work was quoted as saying by the Dawn. He also mentioned the broken chairs are being replaced with the new ones and the Gaddafi stadium will be ready before the series.
“The stadium and its outer portion will be decorated which will add to the grandeur of one of the world’s best cricket grounds. The preparations [for the World XI series] are similar to those made for the Pakistan Super League final which we successfully organised earlier this year,” the official added.
Hel also added that the pitch is being prepared for the big occasion and the grass is being cut to give an attractive look to the outfield. “The ground staff is preparing wickets on professional lines while the grass is being cut to give the outfield an attractive look,” he signed off.
