Gautam Gambhir criticises BCCI for poor scheduling of Tests
Gambhir is presently with the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League.
Gautam Gambhir is renowned as an individual who doesn’t like to mince any words while commenting on any matter. Recently, he criticized the BCCI for not prioritizing Test cricket and he doesn’t consider the move to be a healthy prospect for the longest format of the game in India. He attended the launch of Boria’s Majumdar’s book ‘Eleven Gods and Billion Indians’ where he expressed his opinions.
“I don’t think BCCI has marketed Test cricket as well as they have done with ODIs and T20s. I remember a Test match at Eden Gardens against West Indies (in 2011). India batting on the first day and there were 1000 people. Imagine Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman playing and there are only 1000 people,” Gambhir was quoted as saying by the media.
The 36-year also mentioned that the BCCI can prune the amount of limited overs fixtures and accommodate some Tests in place of them. “I don’t know but they have messed it somewhere. Maybe cut down on T20s and ODIs,” left-handed batsman, who played 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20Is, iterated.
Tests are different from white-ball cricket as per Gautam
India is scheduled to tour England where they will take part in a T20I series followed by an ODI and a Test series. Gambhir also believes that India’s success in the Tests doesn’t depend on how they manage to perform in the limited overs series’.
“Playing with red dukes in Test is completely different from playing white ball cricket. The three T20s and three ODIs isn’t an indicator of how well you are prepared for the Tests,” the former International Cricket Council (ICC) Test batsman of the year mentioned.
Gautam Gambhir is currently with the Delhi Daredevils (DD) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where is warming the benches after he handed over the captaincy of the team to Shreyas Iyer. Meanwhile, he also mentioned that he won’t be taking any salary from the franchise and will play for free.
