Gautam Gambhir involved in heated Twitter battle with Omar Abdullah
Gambhir took a jibe at Abdullah by saying that he ‘needs some sleep followed by a strong coffee!’
Just days after joining Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), former India opener Gautam Gambhir has made it clear that he would not at all shy away from coming up with bold comments every now and then. The legendary opener is known for his comments and statements and has perhaps joined the best sector after hanging up his boots from the game. Through his latest statement, Gambhir has taken a shot at former Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah.
Time and again, Gambhir and Abdullah have been involved in a war of words on Twitter and this time the duo clashed on the Twitter over the latter’s comments on ‘Separate PM for Jammu & Kashmir’. Gambhir took a jibe at Abdullah by saying that he ‘needs some sleep followed by a strong coffee!’ The cricketer-turned-politician then went on to suggest that Abdullah should shift to Pakistan over his remarks that his party would strive to restore Jammu & Kashmir’s autonomy with a separate ‘Wazir-e-Azam’ (prime minister).
Gambhir, who helped India win the T20 World Cup and the 50-over World Cup, even mocked Abdullah’s proposal by saying that if the former Chief Minister wants a separate Prime Minister for the state, then he wants to walk on the ocean and see pigs flying.
“Omar Abdullah wants a separate PM for J&K [and] I want to walk on oceans! Omar Abdullah wants a separate PM for J&K [and] I want pigs to fly! More than a separate PM Omar Abdullah needs some sleep followed by a strong coffee! If he still doesn’t understand then a green Pakistani passport,” Gambhir wrote in his strongly-worded tweet.
On Monday, Abdullah had created a stir across the nation by saying that the state had appointed its prime minister and Sadar-i-Riyasat [head of the state] right after Independence and he would like the same system to return.
“By the grace of God, we shall bring back these posts,” he said. Abdullah was quick to respond to Gambhir’s tweet, saying that the former cricketer should resort to topics he knows about.
“I never played much cricket because I knew I wasn’t very good at it. You don’t know very much about J&K, it’s [sic] history or the role of [Jammu & Kashmir National Conference] in shaping that history yet you insist on displaying that ignorance for all to see. Stick to stuff you know about, tweet about the IPL,” wrote Abdullah.
Gambhir hits back:
Not the one to bow out, Gambhir hit back at Abdullah again. Gambhir said that the mass of Kashmir and the country would have been better ruled by selfless governance.
“Never mind your lack of cricketing prowess but Kashmiris and our country would have been well served if you knew a thing or two about selfless governance,” Gambhir tweeted.
