2007 was perhaps the year of the extremes as far as the Indians were concerned. They had crashed out of the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies earlier that year in the group stages, sacked their coach Greg Chappell, and were back to being the runt of the litter.
However, little did they know that things were going to drastically change in the upcoming edition of the World T20. A revolutionary concept populated by the ICC finally came into force as South Africa was to host the inaugural edition of the tournament.
Not given much of a chance, the Indians under their new and charismatic skipper MS Dhoni made their way into the final of the tournament. However, this was not just any final this was a final off the field as much as it was on the field. Playing Pakistan at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, it seemed much more than just a cricket match.
Gautam Gambhir was one of the standout players of the final as he cracked a fantastic 75 and impressed heavily with the bat in the match. With Virender Sehwag out of action, the onus fell on Gautam Gambhir to guide then debutant Yusuf Pathan to make an impact. Needless to say, Gambhir managed a match winning show in the final where he faced a baptism of fire against quality bowlers like Sohail Tanvir and Umar Gul.

Irfan Pathan then picked the wickets required and turned the game on its head as he was adjudged the man of the match for the same. The twitter account of Gambhir came to life as he relived this day nine years ago when India went on to create history.
