Gautam Gambhir slams two former Indian cricketers who had termed Navdeep Saini as outsider
Meanwhile, Saini has also credited Gambhir for his steady rise in cricket.
Navdeep Saini received a delighting news of his selection in Team India on Monday as a replacement for Mohammed Shami who failed to clear the fitness test. The youngster was awarded for his impressive showings as the cricketing fraternity was happy for him. His Delhi teammate Gautam Gambhir was the one who backed him during his early cricketing days and now he has slammed a few of the DDCA members after he was picked in the Indian team for the Test match against Afghanistan.
There was a lot of controversy when Saini was first selected in the Delhi Ranji squad in 2013 as he had not played for them in the past year and the former cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi had termed him as an ‘outsider’ in an angry letter he had shot to DDCA. Navdeep is originally from Haryana and the notorious section in DDCA was not happy with him being picked. Even the then selector Chetan Chauhan had ignored Saini’s bowling despite the repeated insistence from the skipper Gambhir.
Gambhir’s tweet
No doubt Gautam Gambhir was happy for the Navdeep Saini after he was selected in India‘s Test squad. He is known for not holding back his words and the same attitude came to the fore once again as he lashed out at Bedi and Chauhan both recalling the past incidents.
“My ‘condolences’ to few DDCA members, @BishanBedi @ChetanChauhanCr on selection of ‘outsider’ Navdeep Saini to India squad. Am told black armbands are available in Bangalore too for INR 225 per roll!!! Sir, just remember Navdeep is an Indian first then comes his domicile @BCCI,” his tweet read.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old has credited Gambhir for his steady rise in cricket after receiving his maiden call-up to the national side. “I did what he told me and today I am here because of him. I don’t know whenever I speak about Gautam Gambhir, I get emotional,” he was quoted as saying by India Today.
