The Virat Kohli-led Indian team suffered a shattering and thumping defeat by an innings and 159 runs against England in the second Test at Lord’s. It was a game where the visitors were completely outplayed by the opposition in all the departments.

The Indian batters never showed any real grit and application in the challenging conditions and were rather they folded out in less than 90 overs together in both the innings of the Test match. However, Gautam Gambhir feels that India should now look to draw the series instead of winning it.

They showed absolutely no fight

India were put in to bat first in extreme overcast conditions, but none of the batsmen in the line-up showed any resistance to tackle the England bowlers, which looked to be a major concern in this Test match. Gambhir admitted that the conditions did not went in the favour of the visitors, but he also feels that the No 1 Test side showed no real fight with the bat in both the innings to take the game forward.

“The way we lost the Test match was very disturbing. There was no fight shown by the Indian batters and yes the conditions were a little difficult in both the innings for them, but you don’t expect this team to bundle out in literally three days. They should have shown some fight in the second session to take the game into the final day and anything could have happened from there on,” said Gambhir as quoted by TOI.

In a five-match Test series, there is always a chance for the team which is behind to make a comeback, but the opportunity also comes with some strong challenges and decision to be taken in the days ahead. The veteran Indian opener mentioned that India still have a chance to probably think of levelling the series first and advised them to play the next Test at Trent Bridge with a positive mindset.

“India can make a comeback, but it is always difficult to make a comeback to win all the three games. They still have an opportunity to think about drawing the series. They can look to win 2 Tests out of the remaining 3 and then look at the way forward. They should take one Test match at a time,” he added.
