Gautam Gambhir thanks PM Narendra Modi for his congratulatory letter
Gambhir recently retired from professional cricket after the Ranji Trophy game between Delhi and Andhra.
Gautam Gambhir will always be remembered fondly by the Indian cricket fans for his contribution to the game. For a country which has seen the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli piling up runs, Gambhir’s stats do not really do justice to his contribution to Indian cricket.
He was one of the main reasons behind India’s dominance across formats which culminated with the historic triumph in the 2011 World Cup at home. Gambhir had starred for India in their triumphant 2007 World T20 campaign, top-scoring in the final as India beat the arch-rivals Pakistan to win the title.
Four years later, he once again starred with the bat in a World Cup final. Gambhir scored 97 as India recovered from a disastrous start to beat Sri Lanka and lift the 50-over World Cup after 28 long years. He also helped India rise to the top of ICC Test rankings for the first time.
Not surprisingly, he carved his own place in every fan’s heart. But what has made him even more popular among the fans is his noble deeds for the society. Time and again, the Delhi lad has shown his humanitarian nature.
Last year, Gauti, who is running his own charity called Gautam Gambhir foundation, had received widespread praise after tweeting a video where he could be seen feeding the hungry as a part of his initiative.
Prior to that, he had also pledged to bear the full expenses of the children of 25 CRPF personnel killed in an ambush by Maoists.
He has also received praise for his work and the latest to shower praise on him was none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mr Modi sent a letter to Gambhir congratulating him on his career as well as his deeds for the society. Gambhir recently retired from all forms of the game.
Gambhir replies:
Gambhir, meanwhile, was quick to reply to the congratulatory message from Mr Modi, saying “all these deeds are dedicated to our country”.
Posting a picture of the letter, Gambhir wrote:
“Thanks @narendramodi @PMOIndia for the kind words. Nothing of this would have been possible without love and support of our fellow countrymen. All these deeds are dedicated to our country.”
