Glenn Maxwell checks on the AFL final score during Victoria’s one dayer against Western Australia
On the field, Maxwell scored a sparkling half-century though.
The Final of the 2019 edition of the Australia Football League took place on Saturday, September 21. The match between the Collingwood Football Club and the Greatest Western Sydney Giants kept one and all at the edge of their seats throughout. In the end, the latter emerged victorious by 8.8 (56)-7.10 (52). The action was so much intriguing that it kept Glenn Maxwell engrossed.
Maxwell is currently a part of the Victoria team in Australia’s domestic one day competition. Yesterday, his team played its first match of the tournament versus Western Australia at the Perth Stadium. During the same time, the AFL final was underway. In the first innings, when he was fielding at the deep, he went to a fan and caught the football action on the phone.

Maxwell shines, Victoria lose
As far as cricket is concerned, Maxwell had a reasonable day on the field. He bowled four overs and gave away 28 runs. However, he looked at his brutal best with the bat in hand. Coming to bat at number six, the right-hander plundered 51 runs off 35 balls with the help of three fours and four hits over the ropes. He also shared a useful 94-run stand with left-hander Nic Maddinson.
It was Ashton Agar, who got rid of the dangerman, caught by Nathan Coulter-Nile. Victoria was asked to chase a mammoth score of 387 and they lost wickets at quick intervals during the run-chase. Maddinson scored 87 off 80 and his knock was laced with seven boundaries and four sixes. After Coulter-Nile nipped out Maddinson, the visitors went down the barrel quickly.
Western Australia won the match by a mammoth margin of 125 runs to open their account in the championship. In the first innings, the bludgeoning Marcus Stoinis pounced on the Victorian bowling and racked up 101 runs off 58 balls with seven fours and as many hits into the stands.
The middle-order batter got the apt support from Josh Phillipe, Cameron Bancroft and skipper Ashton Turner, all of whom turned up with half-centuries. For Victoria, the swords came down on fast bowler Will Sutherland, who was taken apart for 102 runs in his quota of 10 overs.
