Glenn Maxwell fined, Shaun Marsh warned for breaching code of conduct

The Kings XI Punjab batting heavyweight, Glenn Maxwell, was fined 25 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL code of conduct during their match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at Hyderabad on Saturday.

Maxwell was charged with the Level 1 offence of breaching Article 2.1.2, which pertains to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match”. Glenn Maxwell had a miserable time in that match with the bat and was dismissed for just 1.

The statement released by the IPL did not detail Maxwell’s offence. According to the code of conduct, “Article 2.1.2 includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which intentionally or negligently results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings.”

His team-mate Shaun Marsh was also said to have violated the same law but he escaped the fine. Incidentally, this is not the first time that Glenn Maxwell has been reprimanded for his actions this season. During the game against the Delhi Daredevils, he was reprimanded by the Match Referee for showing dissent at the umpire’s decision. Maxwell admitted to the level 1 offence (Article 2.1.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials) and accepted the sanction.

However, the KXIP management will now be a little relieved after Maxwell’s good knock against the Mumbai Indians. He showed signs of coming back to form and this is certainly a good news for the struggling Kings. Maxwell scored 56 off 39 balls in the match against Mumbai in a losing cause.
