Glenn Maxwell relegated to Australia ‘A’ squad
A day after being left out of the ODI squad for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka, Glenn Maxwell has included in the squad for the Australia ‘A’ side that will host India and South Africa in an upcoming quadrangular series to be played later this year.
The team will take on India A, South Africa A, Cricket Australia’s National Performance Squad, and will be led by Chris Lynn. Reports have gone on to suggest that Maxwell’s exclusion from the squad could have perhaps been due to his inconsistent performances with the bat.
Former Australian wicketkeeper and current chief selector Rod Marsh stated that the series would be a perfect platform for the fringe players to make a case for themselves in the national squad. “Seven of the 15 players in the squad have been selected in varying formats for Australia, showing that this series can only add to their prospects of pushing for further selection,” he said.
“Although we have also selected a squad with an eye towards the future, we have also rewarded the most recent domestic cricket performers and this is a perfect opportunity to showcase their talents against international opposition.”

Marsh added that Peter Handscomb was someone who was tipped to play for Australia in the near future. “Peter led wonderfully in Australia A’s victory over South Africa A at Allan Border Field in the longer format and will benefit from having a leadership role in the one-day matches, he shapes as one of this country’s best up-and-coming leaders on the field,” he said.
Squad: Chris Lynn (C), Peter Handscomb, Cameron Bancroft, Scott Boland, Cameron Boyce, Jake Lehmann, Glenn Maxwell, Joe Mennie, Kurtis Patterson, Kane Richardson, Alex Ross, Marcus Stoinis, Chris Tremain, Sam Whiteman, Dan Worrall.
