Glenn Maxwell takes a breathtaking one-hander to dismiss Virat Kohli
The wicket of Kohli was the one the Australians were hungry for with Steve Smith mentioning that they need to keep the Indian skipper quiet.
The atmosphere at the Chepauk Stadium was electric as two behemoths in the world of cricket going by the names of India and Australia locked horn for the 1st of the 5-match ODI series. The Australian hurdle was expected to be a much harder one for the Indians than what they faced in Sri Lanka, and it definitely turned out to be so.
After deciding to bat first, Virat Kohli and his men found themselves in turmoil up the order as Nathan Coulter-Nile wrecked havoc in the Indian batting lineup. The scoreboard was fed with just 11 runs when India lost their first wicket in the name of Ajinkya Rahane. Skipper Virat Kohli and Manish Pandey departed in a blink of an eye for consecutive ducks which put the Aussies in the driving seat.
The catch:
However, it took a sensational effort from fielder Glenn Maxwell to dismiss Kohli, who has been in impeccable form off-late. Virat Kohli slashed a Coulter-Nile delivery which was destined to go over the head of the point fielder, but athletic Aussie Glenn Maxwell had other ideas. He jumped up and plucked the ball out of mid-air with one hand and also managed to keep his feet. The destructive batsman made the catch look like a cakewalk as Kohli made his long walk back to the pavilion.
The wicket of Kohli was the one the Australians were hungry for with Steve Smith mentioning that they need to keep the Indian skipper quiet. With three early wickets in the pocket, the Aussies look to have a strong grip over the match with things going absolutely in the right direction for the fidgety Steve Smith.
Both the team will look to clinch the series with a 4 games to 1 scoreline to ace the ICC ODI rankings. Both India and Australia are tied on 117 points in the number 2 and 3 spot respectively.
