The former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh has been picked by the Toronto Nationals franchise as a marquee player for the second season of the Global T20 Canada. The player draft for the upcoming edition is currently in progress and the Nationals managed to get hold of the superstar player from India. Yuvraj announced retirement from all the forms of the game only last week and it was clear then that he was looking to ply his trade in the foreign T20 leagues.

Interestingly, the southpaw had written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seeking permission to play in the T20 leagues outside India. The board is yet to respond to his request and the fact that the cricketer has been already picked by a team indicates even the BCCI won’t have any objection.

Yuvraj Singh and Brendon McCullum will play in the same team now as the Nationals picked the former Kiwi skipper as well and the duo will look to light up the stage now.

Williamson to play for Edmonton Royals

As far as a few other major picks are concerned, the New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is set to play for Edmonton Royals this season and it will be his maiden appearance in the Global T20 Canada. Brampton Wolves is the new franchise which replaced the runners up of the previous edition West Indies -B side have secured Darren Sammy’s services and most probably he will lead them as well.

Sammy has got an excellent record leading the teams in the shortest format and he will also be excited to make this opportunity count as well. Meanwhile, the defending champions Vancouver Knights have retained their captain Chris Gayle by picking him again in the drafts. Chris Lynn will feature for the Winnipeg Hawks as he will also make his debut in the T20 league.

The second season of the Global T20 Canada is set to commence on July 25 and will go on until August 11. Unlike the previous year, Brampton will host all the matches this season. The organisers decided to host the tournament in a more central location and the city of Brampton is approximately 45 km west of downtown Toronto. Last year, King City had hosted the event Maple Leaf Cricket Club which is located 50 km north of downtown Toronto,
