'Go well King' - Twitter elated as Virat Kohli returns for second ODI at Lord's
Kohli missed the first ODI due to a groin injury.
Batting megastar Virat Kohli made a comeback into the Indian side for the ongoing second One Day International against England at Lord’s on Thursday, July 14. He was rested in the last game, having suffered a groin injury in the first ODI. However, Kohli seems to be fully fit and got a green signal for the team management to play in the second ODI.
He would now be charged up to showcase his best performance with the bat as he has failed to make any impact on the ongoing England tour. He only managed dismal scores of 11 and 20 in the rescheduled fifth Test match and 1 and 11 in the two T20Is. Meanwhile, it is to be noted that Kohli occupies the third position in the ICC batters’ rankings for One Day Internationals behind the Pakistan duo of Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq.
The batting icon would now be hoping to make the most of his opportunities in the remaining two ODIs as India eye a first One Day series victory on English soil after 2014. The Men in Blue lost their last ODI series 1-2 despite drawing first blood during the all-format tour of England in 2018 when Kohli was India’s full-time captain.
India win a second successive toss in the ODI series
Coming back to the second ODI, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first. The seasoned pace duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami would once again be looking forward to ask some tough questions to the English batters with the new ball in hand.
In the last game, Bumrah broke the backbone of England with figures of 6/19 from his 7.2 overs that also included three maidens. His spell restricted the reigning ODI world champions to just 110. India chased down the target comfortably by 10 wickets courtesy of an unbeaten 76 off 58 from captain Rohit.
