'God has nothing to do with this, Idiot' - Dale Steyn slams Indian fan for mocking SA's win over England
An Indian fan mocked SA’s win saying it came only on home soil and asked the 36-year-old Steyn to “Chill out for god sakes”.
South Africa witnessed a welcome change in their fortunes on the 22 yards before an otherwise ordinary year came to an end. Faf du Plessis’ side thrashed a formidable England side by 107 runs in the first of the four-Test series in Centurion to go 1-0 up. The Proteas were humiliated by India 3-0 in an away Test series a few months ago and they needed to put up some inspiring performances to overcome the odds.
England captain Joe Root won the toss and elected to field but England failed to go past 300 in both innings that they batted which allowed the hosts to prevail over them. Man of the match Quinton de Kock’s 95 in the first innings and some spirited bowling performances from pacers Kagiso Rabada (seven wickets in the match), Anrich Nortje (six in the match) and Vernon Philander (four in the first innings) sealed the game in favour of the home team that picked its first points in the ongoing ICC Test Championship.
Dale Steyn credits Mark Boucher, Faf du Plessis
Former South Africa Test bowler Dale Steyn congratulated his country over its win and credited coach Mark Boucher and captain du Plessis for putting up the unit in place.
In a tweet, he said, “Mark and Faf seem to have put together a team that looks hungry, has fight, but above all look menacing with real intent towards their skill. All characteristics that I grew up with when I played under Smith and co.”
But here, something happened that left Steyn, South Africa’s highest wicket-taker in Tests, upset. An Indian fan mocked SA’s win saying it came only on home soil and asked the 36-year-old Steyn to “Chill out for god sakes”.
The advice left the pacer, who recently made his debut in Australia’s Big Bash League where he is playing for Melbourne Stars, was irked with the reply and he hit back at the fan saying India’s performance also didn’t count much by that standard as they too were winning most of their games at home. India recently won a number of series across formats against South Africa, Bangladesh and the West Indies.
The second Test begins in Cape Town on January 3.
