Graeme Cremer undergoes successful knee surgery
Until very recently, Cremer served as the captain of the Zimbabwe national cricket team.
Each and every sport is not without its share of injuries and niggles. Immediate ex-captain of Zimbabwe, Graeme Cremer would be one to vouch for that fact as he’s currently recovering from a major knee injury operation. He is expected to miss the upcoming few series for the national team as an aftermath of the injury and its subsequent treatment.
Until very recently, Cremer served as the captain of the Zimbabwe national cricket team. The curtains fell on his tenure when his team was beaten by underdogs United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers earlier this year. As a result, Zimbabwe will not be a part of the 2019 edition of the World Cup.
Cremer optimistic of making a comeback very soon
As reported by Daily News, Cremer underwent a major knee operation in order to counter an injury he’d sustained earlier. The flamboyant player was seen emerging out of Harare’s West End Clinic with his left knee strapped in bandages on Thursday (August 23). However, the cricketer was in good spirits as he sported a smile all throughout the ordeal.
Speaking about his future prospects with respect to the game, Cremer said, “Came out of knee surgery…will definitely miss the SA tour but hopefully will be fit for Bangladesh. Just a bit sore but not too bad. The surgeon was happy with the operation so that’s good. I think I will be able to resume light training possibly in six weeks.”
The 31-year-old leg-spinner is expected to miss the upcoming tours of South Africa and Bangladesh in September and is expected to rejoin the team for the Bangladesh Test and limited-overs series in October.
Earlier on March 22, when Zimbabwe was knocked out of the World Cup Qualifiers by minnow UAE, Cremer had to face the music as he was removed from captaincy as a direct restructure measure. UAE had won the match by a narrow margin of three runs owing to the Duckworth-Lewis Method.
Subsequently, the Zimbabwe cricket team underwent a major reshuffle as significant people like Tatenda Taibu (convenor of selectors), Heath Streak (head coach), Lance Klusener (batting coach), fielding coach (Walter Chawaguta), along with the scalp of the entire senior men technical staff were axed.
