Former England batsman Graeme Hick has been appointed as the batting coach for the Australian cricket team. Hick has had his well-documented successes against the Aussies in the Ashes series that he has been a part of. However, at the moment, it will be Hick who will be a part of the Aussie camp as they aim to retain the Ashes from the team Graeme Hick gave all of his cricketing careers too.

The 50-year old will be replacing Mike Di Venuto who stepped down from the post of batting coach to become the new coach of Yorkshire in the county Championship. He will be joining up with Darren Lehmann and David Saker, with the latter serving in the bowling department. Greg Blewett will be serving as the fielding coach.

Speaking about his assignment, Hick stated that he was overjoyed by the post. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my current role with Cricket Australia and have worked with some great young up and coming players,” he said on Thursday (September 15). “To take the next step up with the men’s team and getting the opportunity to work with some of the best players in the world is something I am really looking forward to.”

Darren Lehmann also mentioned that he was happy with the appointment. The Aussie head coach also went on to add that Hick’s importance will come when the Aussies take part in the Champions Trophy and the upcoming edition of the Ashes series as well.

“Graeme worked with us during the recent ODI tour of the West Indies and we were really impressed with what he brought to the group,” he said. “He is a very experienced player in all conditions and will bring a wealth of knowledge with him.

“With an ICC Champions Trophy, an Ashes Series and an ICC World Cup all to be played in England in the near future, his knowledge of those conditions will also be invaluable,” Lehmann added.
