Grandfather of Ravichandran Ashwin passes away
The last rites of Ashwin's grandfather were performed on Sunday (May 28).
Ace India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin received the unfortunate news of the passing away of his grandfather S Narayanasamy. The cause of the death was ascertained to be the old age and health related issues. It was the illness that eventually turned out to be the key reason for his demise. As per the reports in the DNA India, the news about the death of S Narayanasamy was confirmed by some of the sources close to the family of Ravichandran Ashwin.
Ashwin’s grandfather died at the age of 92 years in Chennai on Saturday, May 27. The last rites of Ashwin’s grandfather were performed on Sunday (May 28) in the city. S Narayanasamy was a former employee at the Southern Railways on the Indian Railway.
Reportedly, he had a very big role in shaping up the cricket career of Ashwin, who is now the premier off-spinner in the world. Ashwin’s father, Ravichandran, affirmed that the role of the grandfather in making Ashwin a good cricketer was vital. After the demise, Narayanasamy is survived by his children – his son Ravichandran and daughter. He has three grandchildren – one of them is Ravichandran Ashwin.
Ashwin is currently with the Indian national team in England preparing for the upcoming edition of the Champions Trophy. He would want to excel in the tournament and that would well be a fitting homage for his departed grandfather.
Recent times for Ashwin
In the recent times, Ashwin was named as the cricketer of the year at the CEAT awards. Earlier, he had bagged the ICC Cricketer of the Year award as well in the ICC Awards for having scalped a record 82 Test scalps in the 2016-17 season. Ashwin last featured for India in the Test series against Australia in March. He did not play the IPL due to sports hernia. He will not be back in action with the national setup in the Champions Trophy.
