Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli wished his “true friend” Sunil Chhetri on his birthday as he turned 38 on August 3 (Wednesday). Indian football team’s skipper Chhetri is regarded as one of the best players in the country and is also the leading goal scorer for India.

Chhetri has also been awarded with India’s highest sporting honour, Khel Ratna Award in 2021, Padma Shri in 2019, and the Arjuna Award in 2011. He is also the first Indian footballer to represent the country on three different continents. The prominent footballer also holds the record of scoring the most hat-tricks for India.

“An honestly hardworking man full of good values & compassion. A man I can call a true friend. Very grateful for the friendship we have skip. Always wish you the best. As you get a year younger I send you my best wishes & all the positivity your way. Happy birthday, @chetrisunil11,” Kohli tweeted.

Both Kohli and Chhetri share a good bond between them and can be seen having conversations on social media outlets. The Indian football team skipper and Kohli have also been seen pulling each other’s legs on several social media platforms.

Talking about Kohli, the right-handed batter has been rested for the ongoing white-ball matches against West Indies and will also not take part in the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has still not announced the Indian squad for the upcoming 2022 Asia Cup, but Kohli’s name is expected to be on the list. The tournament is set to start on August 27 in the United Arab Emirates.

Meanwhile, Kohli has not been able to perform well with the bat lately, but several cricket experts and pundits have backed him to get back to his form soon. Former India cricketer Parthiv Patel has opined that Kohli might be opening the innings alongside Indian skipper Rohit Sharma in the upcoming Asia Cup.
