Gulbadin Naib hits back at Mohammad Nabi with a cryptic tweet
While the all-rounder did not mention anyone in his tweet, his post made his intentions and target very clear.
Former Afghanistan skipper Gulbadin Naib has finally hit out at the criticism meted out at him from his own teammates in recent times. Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) had caused a stir by appointing Naib the captain of the team just days before the start of the World Cup. They had sensationally sacked their inspirational captain Asghar Afghan without explaining any solid reason for the decision.
Not very surprisingly, the decision was not received well by two of Afghanistan cricket’s biggest names – Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan. Both the spinners immediately took to Twitter to criticize the decision and had pointed out that it not at all right to change the captaincy ahead of the big tournament.
Things then went from bad to worse when Naib failed miserably as a captain in the World Cup. Afghanistan finished the tournament at the bottom of the points table. They were the only team who could not get a single point. Naib’s performance with the bat and ball did not help his cause either. And just days after the conclusion of the World Cup, Afghanistan replaced him with Rashid Khan as the captain.
The leg-spinner was named the captain of the team across formats. Rashid recently justified the faith shown in him by leading his country to a historic win over Bangladesh in a one-off Test. Following the conclusion of the game, Nabi once again took to a shot at Naib, saying that the change in captaincy was the main reason behind the team’s dismal performance at the World Cup.
“Before the World Cup we changed the old captain and that was the main thing why we couldn’t play well as a team. That captain never captained in his life. That’s why we didn’t do that well in the World Cup, and even though we had good games against India, Pakistan and West Indies, we lost those matches,” Nabi had said.
Naib hits back
Gulbadin Naib seems to have enough of the criticism as he hit back at his ‘mate’ with a cryptic tweet. While the all-rounder did not mention anyone in his tweet, his post made his intentions and target very clear.
“First You should look to Your self Mate ????????,” Gulbadin Naib wrote on Twitter.
