Guyana Amazon Warriors appoint new coach for CPL 2018
They have also appointed a new assistant coach for the season.
Guyana Amazon Warriors one of the most consistent franchises in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) have made a new signing for the head coach of the team and his assistant. After deliberating for quite a while the team pinned down on one name who best suits all the demands from the role and understands the dynamics of T20 cricket really well.
Former South African all-rounder Johan Botha will now take over as the head coach of Warriors for the upcoming season of the. His deputy is the local man, the manager of the Guyana national team and West Indies A, Rayon Griffith.
The South African has CPL experience having played for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the 2015 season. Botha said that he really enjoyed his time as a player and is roaring to coach the Amazon Warriors this season. He also mentioned that the franchise has managed to sign-up a really good squad.
“I really enjoyed my time with the Hero CPL as a player, and I can’t wait to get underway as a coach,” Botha said on the occasion. “The squad that the Amazon Warriors have put together for this year is really impressive and I am sure we will be challenging for the title at the end of the season.”
The Guyana team management expects both Botha and Rayon to share their experience and introduce innovation for the better fortunes of the franchise.
“The management of the franchise puts in continuous effort to do things differently with the aim of winning the title. After getting so close over the years we are delighted to have Johan and Rayon at the helm of our coaching staff this year. They are both very professional and are very much involved in cricket coaching and development and are expected to bring new ideas and initiatives to the team set-up,” said team and operations Manager of the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Omar Khan.

Sohail Tanvir, Shoaib Malik, Chadwick Walton, Cameron Delport, Rayad Emrit, Imran Tahir, Jason Mohammed, Luke Ronchi, Veerasammy Permaul, Roshon Primus, Shimron Hetmyer, Devendra Bishoo, Gajanand Singh, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Keemo Paul, Saurabh Netravalkar and Akshaya Persaud.
CPL 2018 kicks off on August 8 and the final will be played on September 16.
