The first T20I between India and the West Indies once again proved why you shouldn’t with Virat Kohli; especially when it comes to a run-chase. The Indian captain once again displayed that once the going gets tough, the tough get going. The skipper’s knock was an innings of two contrasting phases.

After the West Indies- riding on whirlwind knocks by the likes of Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Brandon King and skipper Kieron Pollard- had racked up 5-207 in 20 overs, India needs something special from their top-4 if they were to have any chance of leapfrogging the visitors’ total.

The Men in Blue lost the wicket of Rohit Sharma cheaply but KL Rahul continued with his imperious form and notched up another half-century. Meanwhile, Kohli, on the other hand, was struggling for his timing. As if the frustration of not being able to middle the ball wasn’t enough, the matter accentuated when the likes of Kesrick Williams and Sheldon Cottrell decided to have a few words with the Indian captain.

Those altercations seemed to have work like magic. Kohli quickly got his act together and after having struggled in the first 20-25 balls, the Indian captain went into the fifth gear and unleashed his artistic fury on the bowlers.

One of the moments that really caught the eyes of every fan was when Kohli decided to give Williamson a taste of his own medicine. After smoking Williams with a nonchalant flick for six, Kohli decided to write a few names of his own on his imaginary notebook; a moment that became a rage on social media.

Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan was quite impressed with Virat’s antics and took to Twitter where he wrote a series of dialogues; something Kohli liked very much. Replying to Amitabh Bachchan’s tweet, Kohli said, “Haha love the dialogue Sir. You’re always an inspiration.

What was the reason behind Virat Kohli’s celebration?

Speaking in the post-match presentation, Kohli went to reminisce the time when Kesrick Williams had got him out in a T20 in Jamaica back in 2017 and had proceeded to celebrate by writing his name in his imaginary notebook. Virat hadn’t forgotten that.

“It’s not the CPL (about Williams’s celebration), it happened to me in Jamaica when he got me out. So I thought I’ll tick a few in the notebook as well, but all good. There were a few words, but smiles at the end. That’s what you want to see. Good competitive cricket but in the end shake hands and give a hi-fi. That’s what cricket is all about. Play it hard but have respect for opponents” Kohli said in the post-match presentation.
