A total of seven Indian players including Hanuma Vihari and Abhimanyu Easwaran are set to take part in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL) 2022, Bangladesh’s premier List A (50-over) tournament. Parvez Rasool, Baba Aparajith, Ashok Menaria, Chirag Jani, and Gurinder Singh are the other names to ply their trade in the competition. Notably, all these players went unsold in the IPL 2022 mega auction last month.
It must be noted that all 10 teams taking part in DPL 2022 have been allowed one overseas player. Moreover, the likes of Vihari, Easwaran, Aparajith, Menaria, and Rasool aren’t alien to the List A tournament, having taken part in it before in the 2019-2020 season. Several other prominent Indian players like Dinesh Karthik, Manoj Tiwary and Yusuf Pathan have also participated in DPL before.
Hanuma Vihari to miss few matches for Abahani Limited
Meanwhile, Vihari was a part of India’s 2-0 triumph in the recently-concluded Test series against Sri Lanka. As per ESPNcricinfo, the right-handed batter will head back home to Hyderabad for a brief break before traveling to Dhaka. He is likely to join his team, Abahani Limited, later this week.
As he’s set to miss the first three games of his team, Afghanistan batter Najibullah Zadran has been signed up by the club for those fixtures. Speaking of Easwaran, who has been around Test team since a while, he will serve Prime Bank. Rasool will play for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi, Aparajith for Rupganj Tigers, Menaria for Khelaghar, Jani for Legends of Rupganj, and Gurinder for Gazi Group Cricketers.
Besides these Indian players, former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez will play for Mohammedan Sporting and Shinepukur will enjoy services of Zimbabwe allrounder Sikandar Raza. Meanwhile, Indian players not having IPL contracts generally don’t many many assignments from April to September.
In this period, they ply their trade in club cricket in different nations. The same is the case this year. While seven players are going to Bangladesh for DPL, Cheteshwar Pujara will play for Sussex in the English county circuit.
