Harbhajan Singh doesn’t want Virat Kohli to rush himself back from injury
The Indian skipper visited the Hinduja hospital on Wednesday to visit a leading orthopedic.
Due to the presence of franchise-based T20 cricket, international players have very little time off the field. Their work schedule is very hectic and sometimes it takes a toll on a players body. Managing the workload is very essential for a player as he cannot play all the matches all the time. To have a prolonged international career, a player must understand his body requirements and play to the extent to which his body allows him.
Virat Kohli has been featuring for India in all three formats for a long time. The massive workload seemed to have taken a toll as he had to take some time off to get back to full fitness. The run machine suffered a neck injury while fielding during Match 51 of the IPL 2018 between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 17 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
After consulting the BCCI medical team, Kohli has been advised to take rest which means that he will miss his maiden county stint with Surrey. Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has urged Virat Kohli to return to cricket only after regaining full fitness.
Rehabilitation in progress
India is set to tour England in a month and Kohli’s absence can be a massive blow to the visitors. “Any injury is a scare. If something happens to Virat, it will be a big blow for the team. Team India would be empty without him in England. I hope nothing major has happened to him and let’s hope he plays during the England series,” Harbhajan told India Today. The veteran also felt that Kohli must start listening to his body and must not burden himself with too much cricket.
“You need to change your stance if you have a bad back and you need to be very strong mentally, Virat is a strong guy mentally. He has to ensure he looks after his body. If he does not play the Tests, that will be massive. He should not rush himself. He needs to give himself proper time to look after himself. Even if he skips the ODIs and T20Is, that’s fine. He is very keen to go to England and prove a point,” Harbhajan added. The Indian skipper had a horrible run the last time India toured England and Kohli was keen to improve his numbers by playing county cricket.
Kohli will begin his training at the NCA and will undergo a fitness test in Bengaluru from June 15. The medical team is confident that the skipper will be back to full fitness ahead of the tours to Ireland and England.
