Hardik Pandya expresses joy of winning the T20I series on Twitter
The 24-year old Indian all-rounder ended up with six wickets to his name in the three T20 internationals.
Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma played key roles in India winning the third and final T20I against England, and thereby also winning the series. While Rohit scored an unbeaten century, Pandya picked up four wickets at the cost of 38 runs and then also scored 33 runs from just 14 balls to provide support to Rohit during the chase, playing the all-rounders role to perfection.
This was India’s sixth consecutive T20I series win, an unbeaten streak which began in September 2017. This was also the first time India beat England in a bilateral T20I series in the latter’s backyard. India will now take on England in the three-match One-Day International series, starting July 12 in Nottingham, after which they will play a 5-Test series too, beginning on August 1.
A proud Hardik Pandya
An elated Hardik Pandya took to Twitter to applaud India’s unstoppable victories as he wrote, “this team knows only two things – win and learn. So proud.” Meanwhile, in the post-match conference, he was full of praise for Sharma’s outstanding batting. “Rohit played amazingly well. He was outstanding and played a fantastic hand. He won the game single-handedly for us. We expect that from him. I haven’t seen anyone hit the ball as hard as Rohit,” he was quoted as saying.
Hardik Pandya’s revival of form will be a big positive for the team as they gear up for the 50-over format series against the same opponents. Pandya’s first over in the concluding T20I was a disaster, as he leaked as many as 22 runs. But the 25-year-old showed confidence and in his next three overs, four wickets fell and only 16 runs were leaked.
Meanwhile, the waning MS Dhoni also proved that he is far from finished. The only innings where he got a chance to bat in the series, the former captain scored a 24-ball 32. In the last T20I, he became the first player to take five catches in a single T20I game.
