Harmanpreet Kaur reckons that the team is ready for the final of ICC WWC 2017

Harmanpreet still can't believe that Indian women will be playing the final of ICC Women's World Cup 2017.

After her stunning knock yesterday, you’ve probably heard the name ‘Harmanpreet Kaur’ more than ever in the last 24 hours or so. Kaur played a match-winning knock of 171 runs of 115 deliveries, that too against the mighty Aussies. In addition, it was the semi-finals of the greatest platform of women’s cricket the ICC Women’s World Cup. The fans are going gaga over the vice-captain of Indian women cricket team.

After the match, the star of the hour revealed that she still can’t believe that India will be playing in the finals of the mega event while speaking to the media. The lady from Punjab, who idolises former Indian legendary opener Virender Sehwag, reckons that the team is ready to battle it out in the final. they will face hosts England on Sunday at the Lord’s cricket ground.

“It was our dream to reach the final of the World Cup and now we hope that we can go one step further and win the Cup. The team is getting ready for the final and we are not taking anything lightly,” said Harmanpreet. “It was important for us to get runs on the board because Australia are a tough team to beat. Once I started hitting, the entire team got confidence and we managed to beat Australia,” she added.

Harmanpreet decided to go for the big shots after the skipper’s dismissal

At one stage, the Women in Blue were struggling. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Punam Raut were dismissed early. The onus was on skipper Mithali Raj but she was out for 36 runs. At that time, there was neither some firepower left in the lower order nor there were many overs left. Hence, someone needed to put her feet on the accelerator and it was Kaur.

Remembering the situation, Kaur said “I was only thinking of getting more and more runs on the board. There weren’t many wickets left. After Mithali‘s dismissal, the onus was on me to get the runs and I started going for the big shots.”
