Harsh Goenka takes U-turn, thanks MS Dhoni for his quick fire innings
Dhoni played a 26-ball 40 runs knock while Manoj Tiwary scored 58.
MS Dhoni’s 40-run knock has received praise from one of his most vocal critics Harsh Goenka. Dhoni’s innings, which comprised of five sixes, came towards the end of the innings which helped Rising Pune Supergiant set a competitive 163 runs target for the Mumbai Indians. Goenka being a critic had slammed Dhoni for failing in the ongoing IPL 2017 with the bat. But, in the important playoff game, the former Indian skipper finished the Supergiant innings in style.
Harsh, brother of Supergiant owner Sanjeev Goenka, surprised cricket fans as he took a sharp u-turn praising Dhoni for his match-changing knock in the Qualifier 1 against Mumbai Indians. Dhoni and Manoj Tiwary’s 73 runs fourth wicket partnership shaped the Supergiant innings which helped them win the match by 20 runs at the Wankhede Stadium, the home ground of Mumbai Indians.
Dhoni played a 26-ball 40 runs knock while Manoj Tiwary scored 58. In the last two over of the innings, the former Supergiant skipper and Bengal batsman took 41 runs off Mitchell McClenaghan and Jasprit Bumrah.
Harsh Goenka is a vocal critic of MS Dhoni
Goenka brothers were at the stadium. He was overwhelmed with Dhoni’s innings. He took the Twitter to express his pleasure after watching the knock. “Explosive batting by Dhoni, deceitful bowling by Sundar and great captaincy by Smith take #RPS to the #IPL finals (sic),” he tweeted.
Earlier, Harsh after watching Steve Smith’s 84 runs knock, had tweeted that their decision to pick Smith has paid off. His tweet invited scathing replies from Dhoni fans. After this tweet, the former RPS skipper played a 61-run knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 22 which shut Harsh up.
Supergiant, after struggling in the initial phase of IPL 10, made a solid comeback and advanced to the final as the first team of this season.
