In a rather unusual turn of events, team Bangladesh find themselves without the services of a coach at the moment. Chandika Hathurusingha resigned from the post of the head coach last month. Now, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed the news. Nazmul Hassan, the BCB Chief, has confirmed the news and revealed that he had received Chandika’s letter in October this year.
With his words, he tried to convince the media that the sudden resignation had nothing to do with the dismal tour wash that the Bangladesh team had in South Africa last month. Hassan added that the reason for the sudden decision is yet to be ascertained. As per the recent quotes in Cricbuzz, he mentioned that it will be difficult to reason out why he made an abrupt exit.
“He had sent me a letter in early October and I think it was even before the ODIs. It was definitely before October 15. He did not show any specific reason, so it is difficult to say before talking with him,” quoted Nazmul Hassan.
“He mentioned that he is not interested to work. He received the offer from Sri Lanka one year ago and Sri Lanka’s Honorable president also asked him to consider, he had from other places as well and he had shown me quite a few of those offers. It is difficult to say without talking with him why he wants to leave or whether it is a better offer, family issues or something else,” he added.
Cannot assume things
The BCB Chief further conceded that it will be unfair to assume things in such a situation. He exclaimed that the board has not been able to establish a proper communication with Hathurusingha in this regard to sort things out. Apparently, he had expressed his desire to leave earlier as well. However, back then, the board had managed to convince him to stay back by taking a few necessary steps and making changes in the work flow.
“He is a professional and what happened all of a sudden that he needed to quit is something we need to find out. Earlier if there was any problem he would tell us. As there is no specific reason, it is difficult to assume. Earlier he submitted a similar letter where he mentioned of a better offer and we could stop him by taking steps that suit him. But this time there is no clue. He said he might come but we could catch him on the phone only once.”
