'He can put the game out of your reach in a big hurry' - Ian Chappell predicts David Warner as Australia's match-winner against New Zealand
Warner has scored 236 runs in six innings as of now, which includes two fifties.
The ongoing ICC T20 WC 2021 is in its endgame now. Australia are all set to face New Zealand in the final. Aussie legend Ian Chappell was mighty impressed with the Australian batting unit as their players have been in superb form this tournament.
One player who has stood out is David Warner, who has been their best batter so far. The opener has consistently got runs for them throughout the tournament. He is fourth on the list of the leading run-scorers of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 so far. The aggressive batter has scored 236 runs in six innings as of now. This includes two fifties too. Thus, he is now just 67 runs away from becoming the leading run-getter of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
If Warner gets going, he can put the game out of your reach in a big hurry: Ian Chappell
Former Aussie captain Ian Chappell had heaps of praises for the swashbuckling opener. He felt that Warner could turn out to be Australia’s key player for the final. “Warner and Australia’s batting, I think, is the big thing,” Chappell told Wide World of Sports.
“If Warner gets going, he can put the game out of your reach in a big hurry. They’ve got pretty strong batting,” he added. Warner was superb in the semi-final against Pakistan as well. He scored a brilliant 49, which laid the platform Australia’s finishers to finish the game.
The former Aussie player also spoke about the much awaited final between Australia and New Zealand. “New Zealand probably rely more on their bowling, so I’d say Australia’s batting is the key. That’s the thing with T20 cricket. One or two bad overs (can lose the game), or one or two good overs can win you the game,” he said.
While New Zealand defeated England by five wickets in the first semi-final, Australia managed to beat Pakistan in the second semi-final on Thursday by the same margin. Both these teams would love to grab their hands on the trophy. Besides, neither of the two teams have ever won ever won T20 WC, but today, one of them has a chance to add it to their trophy cabinet.
