'He is in competition with me'- Zeeshan Ashraf challenges Kamran Akmal for the wicketkeeper slot in Pakistan team
Kamran Akmal played his last T20I game for Pakistan back in 2017.
Pakistan Super League 2020 season is in full swing with all the teams giving their best to get their hands on the prestigious trophy. The tournament is still in its early phase but the battle between the teams is touching its peak. However, there is an inside tussle going on between two players for getting their spot reserve in Pakistan Cricket team for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Peshawar Zalmi, one of the teams in the tournament got off to a woeful start to their campaign as they suffered a defeat in their curtain-raiser. However, in the second game, they managed to pull off an amazing victory against defending champions Quetta Gladiators. And, Kamran Akmal turned out to be the hero for Zalmi, who played a blistering knock of 101 runs.
On the other hand, there is Zeeshan Ashraf, who hogged the spotlight with his swift knock of 50 runs off 29 balls, studded with four boundaries and three sixes. But, unlike Akmal, Zeeshan’s effort went in vain as his side Multan Sultans lost the game by a margin of eight wickets against Islamabad United.
A battle between Kamran Akmal and Zeeshan Ashraf
After the conclusion of the game, in a surprising revelation, Zeeshan Ashraf, the young wicketkeeper said that he respects Kamran Akmal, who is a senior cricketer. He feels that Akmal performs well in every season of the PSL but this time he will also give him a tough competition.
The left-handed player also added that at the moment, he is competition with Akmal for the wicketkeeper slot for the World Cup T20 squad. He will show his performances with the bat and gloves. And he will leave the rest on luck– which will decide who will be successful in paving a way into the national team.
“Kamran Akmal is playing really well this PSL season. In fact, he performs every year but I will also perform. It is alright that he [Kamran] is a senior cricketer and everything, but now he is in competition with me [for the wicketkeeper slot in WT20 squad]. I will show you my performance and the rest depends on his and my luck.” Zeeshan Ashraf said as quoted by CricketPakistan.
