The Sunrisers Hyderabad were on a winning streak for their past five games, and their form was about to continue even against the Gujarat Titans in the 40th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Umran Malik’s sensational five-wicket haul had helped them to get an upper hand over the opposition batters. But some crazy hitting from Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan helped Gujarat Titans pull off a heist in the end. Nevertheless, Umran’s spell didn’t go unnoticed as he deservedly won the “Player of the Match” award.

In the eighth over, he first came into the attack and delivered a 144 kph ball to dismiss Shubman Gill to give his team their first breakthrough and break the opening partnership of 69 runs. Umran returned in the 10th over and bounced out the skipper Hardik Pandya, sending him off the field early in the innings. Bowling the 14th over of the game, he castled Wriddhiman Saha off a 153 kph yorker and got the big fish in his bag.

Saha had been holding the game strong for Gujarat Titans, but Umran had the last laugh as he scalped his third wicket. Coming out to bowl his final over of the spell, he outcasted David Miller by striking at a speed of almost 147 kph and hitting the stumps, once again. He scalped his maiden five-wicket haul when he picked up Abhinav Manohar on his final ball of the spell and it was bowled, again! He was smashing stumps for fun on the day leaving his bowling coach Dale Steyn delighted.

Umran Malik impresses for the umpteenth time this season

With this spell of 5/25, he clocked the second-best bowling figures in IPL by an SRH bowler, the third-best figures in IPL by an uncapped player, and the best figures of IPL 2022. Malik wreaked havoc on the field, and though ending up on the losing side of the game, he was lauded by many for his fiery spell of bowling picking all the wickets to fall in the innings.
