‘He made it seem as if we had known each other forever’ – Adam Zampa on his first interaction with Virat Kohli in RCB

Adam Zampa, the Australian leg-spinner, made his comeback into the Indian Premier League. He plied his trade for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and rubbed shoulders with skipper Virat Kohli. During the tournament, he only took part in three games where he picked up a couple of wickets. But despite not playing a whole lot, Zampa had a learning experience.

The tweaker talked about how Kohli made him feel at home after he joined the RCB setup. Zampa said that after he reached the United Arab Emirates, Virat introduced himself through WhatsApp, sending information about a vegan restaurant.

Zampa put forth the revelations during an interview with on Sydney Morning Herald. “It was the first day I arrived [and], he [Kohli] WhatsApped me, I didn’t have his number. He made it seem as if we had known each other forever,” Zampa said.

“Zamps, here’s the $15 off voucher at a vegan restaurant from Deliveroo, it’s a really good restaurant,” the WhatsApp message from Kohli read.

On the field of play, Kohli is known to be an animated character, showing his emotions day in and day out. Zampa, who earlier played for the defunct Rising Pune Supergiant, lauded Kohli for showing intensity and being a competitive personality.

“He’s absolutely not what you see on the cricket field. He always brings his intensity to training and the game; he loves competition, and he hates losing as much as anyone.

“He probably shows it more than anyone. Once he’s off the park, he’s the most chilled guy. He’s watching YouTube clips on the bus, and he’ll laugh out loud,” Zampa stated.

Zampa mentioned that Virat has a humorous side and is someone, who’s good to talk to. He also spoke about Virat’s fondness towards travelling and exploring a variety of food.

“There was a cricket clip recently from cricket.com.au, it was a funny run out. He was laughing about it for three weeks straight. He loves holding onto jokes like that. He talks about coffee, travelling, food. He’s a really cultured guy. He’s good to talk to, good fun,” he added.

RCB and Virat didn’t have the greatest of outings. The Challengers bowed out of the tournament after losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final.
