‘Headlines made me The Buttler for tonight’ – Ravi Ashwin’s wife’s hilarious reply on Ricky Ponting’s take on Mankading
Ashwin found himself into a controversy last season after running out Jos Buttler.
Ricky Ponting, the Delhi Capitals’ head coach, was clear cut in saying that the team won’t be resorting to ‘Mankading’. The veteran put forth his opinions after Ravi Ashwin joined the team for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Last year, the Indian spinner received a lot of flak for running Jos Buttler out at the non-striker’s end.
Ashwin was the Kings XI Punjab’s captain and the heated moment took place against the Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The Royals went on to lose the round-robin match after Ashwin’s antics. The former Australian cricketer stated that he will be having a chat with Ashwin regarding the matter.
Ravi Ashwin’s a terrific bowler, says Ponting
“I’ll be having a chat with him about [mankad], that’s the first thing I’ll do,” Ponting said about Ashwin. “Obviously, he wasn’t in our squad last year, he’s one of our players that we tried to afford to bring in this year.”
Nevertheless, Ponting also credited Ashwin for his contributions in the IPL. Prior to the Capitals, and KXIP, Ashwin also plied his trade for the Chennai Super Kings and the Rising Pune Supergiant. He is amongst the leading wicket-takers in the history of the tournament.
“Look, he’s a terrific bowler, and he’s done a great job in the IPL for a long period of time now, but I must admit watching that last season, as soon as it happened and he did that, I actually sat our boys down and said ‘Look, I know he’s done it, there’ll be others around the tournament who’ll think about doing this well but that’s not going to be the way that we play our cricket. We won’t be doing that’,” he added.
In the meantime, Prithi Ashwin, the spinner’s wife, had a hilarious take on Ponting’s comments. However, she also enjoyed her last evening with the Tamil Nadu-born before the latter heads to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The IPL is scheduled to start on September 19.
She wrote, “Last evening with beau @ashwinravi99 before he leaves for the IPL, which is basically forever. But the headlines made me ‘The Butler’ for tonight. #mytimeranout #thatthatmanthatthatproblem.”
