Heartbroken Fawad Alam says he will be cheering for the team 'from home'
Alam has been left out of the squad despite a phenomenal domestic season.
Ever since Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the squad that will be traveling to England and Ireland, the Pakistani loyalists are demanding justice. They are demanding justice for the neglected cricketer Fawad Alam, who has once again been left out of the team despite extraordinary performances in the domestic circuit. Alam, however, congratulated the players who made it to the national team and said that he will be cheering them from home.
This is not the first time Alam has been ignored. There are incidents in the past where the left-handed batter did not get a chance despite phenomenal performances in the tournaments he has played in, and that hasn’t changed. Many are believing that a case of nepotism and favouritism is prevailing in Pakistan, as the current chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq selected his nephew Imam-ul-Haq over Alam despite his average of 55 in first-class cricket.
He has also picked players like Usman Salahuddin and Haris Sohail, but has no place for the man from Karachi. Pakistani fans were left infuriated after the release of the team, and they expressed their disgust on Twitter. They demanded justice for Fawad Alam, and now a hashtag with the same phrase is trending in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s tour of England and Ireland
Pakistan will play a Test match against Ireland from May 11-15. This is going to be Ireland’s first ever tryst with Test cricket. After that, they will be having a greater challenge against England, who will be playing two Tests against the men in green, one at Lord’s and the other at Headingley. After dealing with the Three Lions, Pakistan will play 2 T20Is against Scotland at Edinburgh’s Grange Cricket Club Ground. So we can say that they will have a long and important stay in Europe.
Pakistani squad: Sarfraz Ahmed (captain), Azhar Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Sami Aslam, Haris Sohail, Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Saad Ali, Asad Shafiq, Usman Salahuddin, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Abbas, Hasan Ali, Rahat Ali, Faheem Ashraf.
