Team India lost the second T20I match against the visitors South Africa at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack on June 12 (Sunday). South Africa found a new match hero in form of the wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klassen, who was excellent with the bat and was rightly adjudged the Player of the Match.

South Africa after winning the toss, decided to have a bowl first. The Men in Blue suffered a blow early in their innings as batter Ruturaj Gaikwad failed to get going after scoring just one run. Batter Ishan Kishan (34 runs) and Shreyas Iyer (40 runs) continued their good form and stitched a valuable partnership for the home side.

However, the Proteas continued to take wickets at regular intervals with Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel failing with the bat. While Axar scored ten runs, Pant and Hardik could not even reach the double figures. Iyer too failed when the Indian side needed a push in their innings.

However, Dinesh Karthik (30 runs) and Harshal Patel (12 runs) ensured that their team cross the 140-run mark in the allotted 20 overs. For South Africa, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Wayne Parnell, and Dwaine Pretorius scalped one wicket each. Express pacer Anrich Nortje took two wickets for his side.

Chasing 149, South Africa were 29/3 in their innings

Senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar took the charge for the Indian side and totally bamboozled South Africa’s top order. He scalped the wickets of Reeza Hendricks (4), Pretorius (4), and one of the heroes from the previous match Rassie van der Dussen (1). However, skipper Temba Bavuma (35 runs) didn’t put his guards down and played a solid knock. He was accompanied by Klassen and the duo took the charge on the meek-looking Indian bowling line-up.

The likes of Axar Patel, and Yuzvendra Chahal, who had done so well for their respective franchises in the IPL, were taken to cleaners as Klassen absolutely toyed with the Indian spinners. After the fall of Bavuma and Klassen, David Miller (20 runs) completed the job for his team as South Africa win the second match by four wickets. The visitors are now 1-0 up in the five-match series.
