Here is how the WTC 2021-23 points table looks like after 2nd Ashes Test match
Australia have now moved to the 2nd spot, and have posted 2 wins in 2 matches in the 2nd cycle of the WTC.
You have to feel for Jos Buttler. The wicket-keeper batter had defiantly stood between Australia and victory and had frustrated the kangaroos. But then, Buttler’s innings ended in a highly unfortunate manner.
To a short delivery from Jhye Richardson, Buttler went onto the backfoot and guided the ball towards the offside. However, the batter had gone too deep into the crease, and was dismissed ‘hit wicket’. And after the dismissal of Buttler, the Australian side completed the formalities on Day 5, and decimated the England side by 275 runs.
England were never in the contest in the 2nd Test at Adelaide. In the second innings, the Joe Root led outfit was set an improbable target of 468 for victory, and the visitors were bowled out for 192 at the Adelaide Oval. However, England can take heart from the fact that they fought till the end, and did not gift the game away to the Australian side.
